How much do I give him!? SR ♥ 1 child; V, AR, United States 7911 posts

I picked up some infant tylenol just a bit ago. He's running a low-grade fever. Between 98.9-99.5. The package says not to give to babies under 6 months without calling a doctor for dosage information. The doctor at the ER said I could give it to him, but...Didn't tell me how much.

:/

I'd call the ER and ask. Is he okay? Babies that young should be seen for a fever over 99.0 .. .he is about 5 weeks? (If I recall correctly)

Is he eating fine? Having enough wet diapers? Is it consistently that temperature? If yes,yes,&yes..id let his body work the fever off instead of suppressing it.

He has RSV so it varies. It has gotten up to 100.5, last night. He's 2 months and 9 lbs 13 oz.

I would only give medicine if the fever was above 100. That's just me though

Depends on the concentration of the tylenol.

RSV. :) His temp was 98.8 at the ER earlier. But..I'm trying to check ever so often and goes away...and then comes back..and then goes away. I can tell he feels bad.

I would still call the doctor and confirm but here is a dosage chart.

Call the hospital or after hours phone line and ask them.

Ah, I understand. Sorry.

I'd still call the ER or your doctor on call to see how much. It goes by weight, but I don't have a chart for that small of a weight.

I'm going to try and give the doctors office a call and see if it connects me to an after hours doctor.

Recommended Dosages
Important Note: Infant concentrated drops are being phased out but are safe to use if the dose is correct. They're three times as concentrated as the new infant liquid, so use caution: Know your baby's weight and follow the dosage chart. Find out how to tell the difference between the old and new medicine at www.babycenter.com/acetaminophen.
Your child's weight: 6 to 11 lbs
Dose: 40 mg
Old Infant drops:

It's says "concentrated drops" on the package, so I'm assuming?

I wouldn't give it for that temp, but if you do make sure its the right dose for the right concentration. There is the new concentration, which is different from the old Tylenol. So if you call them, look at the bottle and see if it says New concentration or not and let the pharmacist or whoever know which one it is.
