I can't wait to anchor ours to the wall! If we buy this house we're doing exactly that first thing.

Quoting Brandi Coyle Wallace:" I don't think its just a decrease in spanking but a lack of discipline all together. I know that different ... [snip!] ... behaved kids then act like spanking is sooooo bad. Well, I may whip their ass but they damn sure don't act like your kids! Lmao"

Whoa there..
I give a swat as a last resort when necessary but I'm not going around "whipping ass" all day...
I don't know where you're seeing all these terrible children at but I see a lot of polite well-mannered ones as well. There will always be good and bad and you can't always blame discipline for it.

Quoting Michael Westen:" :!: Anyway, I thought the point of spanking was to get a kids attention... Not to hurt them. Am I missing somethign??"

Depends on the spanker. I've heard it's only to get attention from some, but some have also told me it won't work unless it hurts. One parent even went as far as to say has to leave a mark, and kid crying to work..

Quoting Michael Westen:" There are other forms of discipline. I don't know if you know that or not....."

She does nothing but yell and yelling isn't a way to do much but threaten a child and most don't respond to yelling. She lets her children talk back to her, smack her, beat each other up, she doesn't want to parent. I've seen it first hand and yes I use other forms of discipline so I am well aware there is but excuse me I never said SPANKING is the only thing I do or every parent should do. I said her children need something (spanking IMO *my opinion* should be used). My oldest has rarely been smacked and he is well mannered same as my daughters but I discipline my children and will not have them walk all over me or disrespect others or run wild.

:D

I hate painting. I painted our entire NC house by myself as I was packing it up to move...did it while the kids slept...I'm paying someone next time. That crap is not worth it. :x

Quoting Jas ♥:" We anchor everything to the wall. Our TV, the TV stand, the wall unit, dressers."

We can't do that here. That's why we had to teach them not to do it otherwise. I really wish we could though as a safety measure. Renting sucks! Lol

This is one of my personal beliefs of what is so wrong with society, not all of it...but a good chunk of it. Nothing to do with spanking, not spanking, or whatever. I just don't think we're as tuned in as we used to be.

Quoting sassy chef:" It goes both ways. There are also lazy parents who spank and think that is all they need to do, so they ... [snip!] ... is a dangerous path to take, and I feel for her child who will grow up to expect those kinds of things to be handed to him. "

I think the same thing. My sister lets her 12 yr old get away with everything he thinks he should be given everything he wants/asks for. I, do things differently, we make our 6 yr old do small chores to earn his money and he spends it his way I don't want him to think everything in life will be given to him. But I am not my nephews mother so how she wants him to grow up is on her. I do also think that there is a lot of parents who spank just because they think that solves everything and their too lazy to actually explain to their child(ren) what they did wrong.
