Have you done this? I can't find a good site on how to do it. I'm not sure exactly what to feel for. I don't see my OB for another week still and want to do a self check cuz I feel like I am progressing. I can't even poop because I can only push my baby. Im not sure if that means im close or she is in a weird position but I would like to check myself. I've been having lots of contractions the last 2days and have been losing pieces of my plug (I know it can regenerate). My hips are very wide and sore. Anyways tell me how or somewhere I can find how please.

I know how badly you want to but please wait you do not want an infection

I did it all the time. I used this site
http://prepforlabor.tripod.com/id14.html

As long as you keep your nails trimmed and hands washed its perfectly safe, my midwife encourages it.

My aunt tried to talk me into this & sweeping my own membranes. I'm only 36 weeks so I looked at her like she was crazy especially about the membrane sweep. I hear checking yourself can cause an infection & could seriously hurt you & your baby. Besides, you have no idea what you are doing down there. Your OB does. You see him in a week, so please take my advice & don't try that. I have a feeling it's not a very good idea.

This. It's just not necessary. As a matter of fact, it's so unnecessary that my doctor doesn't check, unless their is a concern, until you are in active labor.

As long as her hands are clean and her water hasn't broken, it's not really a big deal...

Well by that logic, you shouldn't be having sex either due to risk of infection.

"I think it's a good and empowering thing for a woman to check her own cervix for dilation. This is not rocket science, and you hardly need a medical degree or years of training to do it. Your vagina is a lot like your nose- other people may do harm if they put fingers or instruments up there but you have a greater sensitivity and will not do yourself any harm."

But like some people have said, if you are clean there isn't really an issue. I read somewhere that fresh after a shower is good because everything is clean. But I am wondering what yall do for sex? Lol

Gross, read at own risk
I just can't seem to get deep enough. Damn my short fingers. But it was worth the try. I told SO earlier that I was losing my plug and he was line "how do you know?" I told him, I see it when I go pee. so when I was done I.asked if her wanted to see what one was and showed him the chunk I found while checking. Lmao!
