I have been drinking 32 fl.oz of Soy milk a day for the last two weeks, its my only craving for the moment. My father in law's wife told me to stop because is not good for the baby. I went online and there is a lot of talk on the topic. I just would like to know your opinion.

why wouldn't it be safe?
Same as eating tofu or tvp or soy icecream ... I was vegan for years had 2 babies while vegan ... they are perfectly fine ...

Yes! It is VERY good for the baby. Why would they make most baby formula out of it? It has so much nutrients in it, more then just plane milk. Who would say that's bad?

As just one example, when mothers who eat an entirely vegetarian diet during pregnancy have boys, those children have a fivefold greater risk of developing hypospadias, a birth defect of the p***s. In hypospadias, the opening of the p***s is found on the underside of the p***s rather than at the tip, requiring corrective surgery -- untreated, it can interfere with urination and sexual function.
The birth defect is most likely due to the greater exposure vegetarians have to phytoestrogens, the hormone-like compounds found in soy. For the exact same reason, vegetarians with a soy-rich diet during pregnancy expose their female offspring to a higher risk of breast cancer later in life.
No matter what you may have heard, soy is not a health food. There is a 70 billion dollar industry that funds many studies attempting to show that soy has benefits so that you will consume it. Their goal is to sell more domestic soy. Their goal is NOT your health. Pregnant women in particular should avoid soy completely, with the exception of fermented soy products which have a greatly lowered phytoestrogen content.
I haven't a dr. She asked if anyone had an opinion, and that was my Mom's opinion (and whoever wrote the article, too, I guess). I haven't put much thought into it.
Personally, I think there are SO MANY things out there that will supposedly kill/maim/harm our children that filtering them all out is impossible. Do everything in moderation and I can't see running into too big of a problem at any point- whether it's soy milk, chocolate, or strawberries.
I have seen some studies, though, that show that things stored/ microwaved in plastic have a high level of an estrogen-type hormone in them, and a lot of people are attributing that to early periods for girls (you know, 9-10 yr olds) and higher rates of cancer, and I have heard that soy also has a similar hormone type to that found in plastics. Not sure if it's a link, or if it's one of those studies where in 10 years they'll go wait no, soy helps fight cancer! but it's something to keep an eye on, anyway.
Well... after reading that I feel less guilty about cheating here and there, haha. I've often wondered because people get mad at me if I eat peanuts and have warned me that if I eat a lot of dairy my kid will be lactose intolerant. That seems all backwards to me though! You'd think if I ate it while preggers, they'd develop some sort of immunity to it just from common association if that makes any sense.
It's like- my husband is allergic to cats. For the first week. Once he's around them for a week or so, he gets used to them and has no problem. We have 1 cat of our own, and babysat my sisters cat for a few months. I figure if allergies to food could be figured out like this... I don't know, now I'm rambling. But I'm scared of my kid having a seafood or peanut of wheat or dairy or whatever allergy because I LOVE all of those things and would hate to not have them in the house.
I love sushi and have been seriously missing having it... so I'm thinking I might go to a good, reputable sushi place (where I know all their stuff is fresh and prepared properly) and indulge a little bit anyway. All this "can't eat" stuff is making me depressed :(

See, same with my mom. My mom ate peanut butter, ate fish and seafood becasue she loves them, drank coffee and tea, and totally overdid it on juice and sweet things and dairy and my sister has a mild lactose problem (with my older sister, she said she was drinking 2-3 times the daily recommended amount on dairy, so maybe over doing it is bad) but none of us have had any other problems or allergies- no asthma, no sensitivies, nothing.
My husband's mom is allergic to dairy, wheat, peanuts, and red foods (tomatoes, strawberries, red peppers, etc) and both her kids had diary wheat and peanut sensitivities that they have mostly outgrown but not entirely.
I think constant exposure (though maybe not in high amounts) is the key to an allergy-free baby. I say this as I eat my PB & J sandwhich washed down with a cup of hot chocolate with extra milk added in.
Maybe I'm wrong, this is just my feelings on things.
Soybean is the most commonly used legume in the Asian diet. And the Japanese are some of the longest living people on the earth. So, how would someone explain that? True, most of theirs is consumed in tofu, miso, and edamame but you would still be getting the same nutrition from it.
Google "Dr. Mercola is a quack" and you'll get tons of info on this guy that wrote the article. Even the FDA was after him to stop making some of the claims on his website.
I think the key is not to overdue it. If you want soy milk drink a glass but not a gallon! 32 fl. oz might be a little much!
I drink Rice milk. There are a couple of brands that are very good. My sister and her kids, and my family all started out drinking soy milk years ago and we have all switched and prefer rice milk now. I like the lighter texture and my kids like vanilla.
