Quoting bbbt:" She was probably in shock. "

After pulling her baby out with scissors, killing it, hiding it in a shoe box, and then saying she was having a miscarriage? Doesn't sound like shock to me. Sounds a lot like premeditated murder and lack of compassion.

In a news report the sheriff stated that she "turned the water on high and placed a towel in her mouth to muffle her screams."

I'm trying to find more details.

she felt for a pulse, found one, strangled him, then felt for a pulse again and found none. She knew what the hell she was doing. I hope she gets locked away and doesn't get to see the light of day again. Same goes with any murderers. I think they shouldn't be able to breathe ever again.

I say they should charge her as an adult, even a child knows not to kill someone.

Poor little girl - I'm sure she was terrified and didn't have a clue what to do. She isn't monster - she is a child who had a child - she was alone with her pregnancy and had no support from anyone. Post natal depression can happen to any female also - this may have been a factor in her situation. That along with puberty would be enough to send anyone mad. I know that there are some great 14 year old parents by the are few and far between - I don't know what I would have done if I got pregnant when I was 14. Probably not kill my child but I would have been seriously fucked up about it.

Which again, all screams mental illness.

I don't know what people are missing here... 14 year old kills her baby and she's mentally stable? How about no.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Just Ames:</b>" Not all 14 year olds are on the same mental level :? I am not saying she was mentally ill, unstable or retarded either."</blockquote>

I think the whole mental illness excuse is ridiculous in this situation. Unstable or not, it's no excuse for murdering her baby. If she was mentally retarded with the mind of a two year old I might think differently. I understand getting pregnant as a teen can be really scary, I was there myself. But having your baby in secret then choking him to death is really fucked up. That poor baby was murdered, his mother should be punished to the full extent. Whether that's life in prison or even the death penalty, she deserves it. You knowingly take another life like that and you should lose yours.

Unless she has some OBVIOUSLY mental illness like Down's Syndrome, I'm pretty damn sure ever 14 year old knows that killing your baby is completely wrong.

I would hope that it would mean you would have more compassion for other people with mental illness.

So, premeditated murder in adults should be considered mental illness? Do we send all murderers to a mental health institution? Yes, you have to be bat shit crazy to murder someone in this manner, but that does not mean you should go to a mental health institute to be worked on and released back into society.

She didn't have any support because she HID it from EVERYONE. Maybe she shouldn't have faked the pregnancy test or hid her pregnancy or hell gave birth alone with scissors. Maybe she would have had some support then.
