Depends on where you start school and when your birthday is. The district I was really strict and in would not let you start if your birthday was after September 1. Since I'm a September birthday, I started school a couple weeks before I turned 6 and graduated 4 months before I turned 19. Some of my classmates turned 18 after we graduated. I know several people who were able to start school at 4 in California because they turned 5 before January.

Quoting ~Betta~:" soo... people are born different years (not counting those held back etc) in high schools? That's odd. Here everyone is born in the same year, unless there's something special, lol"

Yeah it's weird. Some states have cutoff dates in August or September, some states say every kid born in _____ year gets to go. SO's state was that way but mine was cut off August 1. I prefer the by-the-year way better.

I was 17. How many years of school do you have in Sweden? Or what age do you start going to school?

Quoting ~Betta~:" why was he older when he graduated if his birthday was later in the year?"

Because if your bday is after Sep 1, you start the next school year. His bday is in December, so instead of starting Kinder in '97 he started in '98

We have 12 years + kindergarten, so 13 years. We start the year we turn 6 and graduate the year we turn 19. I was 18.5 when I graduated

Same with us 12 years plus kindergarten. I was 5 when I started Kindergarten. Just the way some places have birthday cut off's.

Do you guys have anything like preschool or head start? My little man starts preschool soon at the age of 3. Head start is for the 4 or 5 year old's. It's not mandatory just gives the kids literally a head start before they start kindergarten.

That's cool! There weren't very many of us September birthdays in my class so I was always the old one! The perk was that I was the first to get a drivers permit! lol. I was also 18 pretty much my entire senior year, which was awesome!

Pre-k is mandatory here, they have to go to one, which is why it is offered for free through the public school system.
