FIL and MIL are very religious. They go to church Wed. evening, Sunday morning (2 hours) and then Sunday evening (1 hour). Usually we go as well but tonight DS fell asleep eating dinner so DH and I made the decision to let him sleep and stay home.

We live with my in-laws who apparently disagreed with our decision to stay home tonight because as FIL was walking out the door he was mumbling something about how our son is going to go to hell because we don't teach him our religion properly?

We took him to his VBS. A week of bible study that they do during the summer for the kids. So our son was at the church Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for 3 hours, Wednesday and Friday for 4 hours, and today for 2 hours.

If I'm counting correctly that is 16 hours out of the week spent at the church learning about God and the bible. I get that religion is a very important thing to them and they only want what is best for our son but to say he is going to go to hell for missing 1 hour of church is a bit much. I wish they would keep their opinions to themselves.

Do you want your child to spend time at church? My family is very religious, I am not. My family goes to church and take church classes and such I would never put my child in those courses. I personally would've told them to keep their opinion to themselves.

That's a lot of church!!

We are a Christian family and pretty involved in our church, but we miss a service here and there. It's unfortunate that FIL thinks that way.

I would love for him to spend time at church, but when he is so exhausted he is falling asleep during dinner I'm against forcing him to stay awake just to go to church.

I'm a chicken shit... I don't think I could ever tell them to keep their opinions to themselves.

It is, especially for a two year old!

We are Christian as well and very involved in our church also so I don't see what missing a service here or there could hurt. He's still went this morning, I look at evenings as more of a "catch up" for those that missed the morning service anyways.

... and you are right. To be honest, I think he's no better if he's saying his grandchild is going to go to hell.

telling someone that they are going to hell can make that person go to hell as well. considering the only judge is supposed to be god. how rude.

My MIL's side of my hubbys family are Christians and every time we speak to them its always something about my hubby going to hell because he has tattoos and piercings and that if you don't go to church every Sunday then your a horrible person and are going to burn. To me and my side of the family, going to church has nothing to do with believing in god, we are lds and after my experience with the Mormon and Christian religion, I will never step in either churches again. It drives me insane when people judge others because they don't do something or have the same believes

Technically speaking...you don't HAVE to go to church to get into heaven. Christ made the church so like minded people could lift each other up. Nowhere in the Bible does it say you HAVE to go.
