How many times should i wash our prefolds before using them roughly?

I've done 2 warm washes so far (each 1 1/2 hours long)..

Do i need to put them in a drier to fluff them up the first time before using or is line drying ok?

Quick question. When making your own flats out of receiving blankets, what measurements do you use?

Faith uses like 28 or 30 I think. Mine are small but I'm not sure what size I didn't measure they're just what I had here and she's small so they're ok. Idk how long they'll fit but it should be a good while.

If new
3-5 hot washes with drying in between or boiling for 30 mins and drying. You need to have them quilted for first use. They shrink quite a bit. I would dry, then wash and dry again. They get more absorbent each time :)

Why do I have to hate stuffing pockets so much :( they're the only ones that are holdin up overnight. I'm thinking its the microfiber. So I wanna make some microfiber inserts soon and cover them in some cotton fabric. Do you think that would be ok on baby's skin to use inside a cover? I just HATE stuffing pockets so much. I cringe when I think about doing it :(

Buy some cheap alvababy ones or make your own and then sew some microfleece sleeves for them to go in! :)

Or sew the inserts into the microfleece sleeve.. it'll stay dry against bubs skin & would be relatively cheap.

Or you could just sew 1 layer of microfleece on top of your insert if you make your own/buy them.. probably be cheaper since you'll use less.

I ended up doing 2 hot & 2 warm washes (each 1hr 15mins long with 2 rinse cycles) .. 2 with detergent, 2 without.

I also boiled for 15mins and then left them to soak in the water a further 15 (with the element off)

Fingers crossed they're ready to use!

I dont have a drier so am going to hang dry them.. i hope it doesn't effect absorbency for the first time using them

I'm making some covers when my mom goes on Spring break at the end of the month. So I figured I can just put some microfiber in them. I don't wanna ruin my dipes I bought by altering them. But I know microfiber can't touch their skin so I figured I could just cover it with cotton and it would still work but not touch their skin. Idk how much needs to be between their bottom and the microfiber.

any amount should be fine :).. aslong as the microfiber is covered.

is you use microfleece its a 'stay dry' material, so she wont feel wet when she pees.

Am I the only one that doesn't stuff until I go in to do the diaper change? I have my stacks of shells and stacks of inserts in the drawers. Sometimes, if I am bored I might stuff them while watching a TV show or something, but I don't like the way microfiber feels so I don't like to touch a whole lot of it at once.
