Do you think that someone who has never been an addict can understand drug/alcohol addiction?

Honestly, I don't think so. There is a drive/need unlike anything I have ever experienced and the brain processes that go along with it are so hard to describe. you kind of have to feel it yourself to understand.

I don't think anyone can understand alcohol/drug addiction unless they've seen it first hand - whether they've been an addict themselves, or have lived with one.

Maybe to a certain degree, like if they grew up with an addict relative. But there are parts of addiction one can never understand unless having gone through it.

I feel you can read tons and tons about it... but you still won't "get it" until you're there. It's easy for people who have studied it even, to sit there and say "it's not that difficult... just stop"

agreed. They can try to understand it, but will never truly know.

Yes if they're educated about it.
As far as what they go through probably not...
