I have heard some buzz from people that anemia during pregnancy can cause a still birth :( The last time I had my blood drawn the doctor mentioned I am pretty anemic and told me to take iron twice daily. It does a number on me but I've been taking it for weeks now and don't feel a lot of improvement. Have any of you mothers or mothers to be out there experienced anemia and have you heard it can cause a still birth? I am so worried =(
I've been anemic for a long time and I have 3 healthy baby, 2 are twins.
I've never heard that it can cause a stillbirth, but if you're severely anemic and your blood isn't being properly oxygenated, then your baby isn't going to be properly oxygenated either.
Some tips to help iron absorption: Take it on an empty stomach, or with a glass of OJ. Vitamin C helps the iron to be absorbed, as well as Vitamin B-12.
I'm sure its possible, because if you have iron problems and the baby is taking all your iron it can make you sick, which could make the baby not getting the nutrition it needs. I have low iron anemia, didn't find out until my first baby. I was young and didnt realize prenatals were that important. Baby didn't get enough of iron and I had a miscarriage.
I was anemic with my daughter and she's fine... I'm anemic again this time around too :? Iron pills just make me sick to my stomach.
ive been anemic since i was a child, the only time ive been severely anemic was from my paragard! While pregnant im prescribed a iron pill and stool softner!but the docs never seemed concerned by it
If you were that anemic they would do what they did with me and do an iron infusion- basically like a blood transfusion but its iron....so i wouldnt worry about it to much...ive been aneamic through 2 pregnancy and also the one im currently pregnant with- doctors know what they are doing.
I suffer from anemia off and on. I had a stillborn baby, but it was genetic and not related to the anemia. Many problems can arise from anemia while pregnant especially if it is severe and untreated. So long as you take care of yourself and baby, you should be fine. :)
I highly recommend drinking your iron pills down with some milk as it is so gentle on the stomach. Preferably after a snack or light meal. Use soymilk if you're lactose intolerant like me. Then also take a vitamin b-6 along with a few fiber pills to help with the iron's effect of making you constipated. The B vitamins will help you in absorbing your nutrients better. Make sure to take really good prenatal vitamins daily. I can't stress that enough.

I wouldn't recommend milk. It actually hinders the absorption of iron.

Oh, I didn't know that. What about soymilk or almond milk?

Hmm... I don't know about that.
I was anemic and my boy is fine! I also have a friend who is severly anemic, has to have blood transfusions every other month....she has 2 healthy babies

I've never heard that and I found out I was severely anemic about 2 1/2 years ago. My iron pills don't seem to have any effects on my baby, they've checked her and checked her, and the only thing that's even remotely wrong is that I'm anemic ( not that I didn't tell them that to begin with  ), no blood sugar problems or anything. You should be fine :)
