I was wondering i want my baby to have my last name but my bf wants him to have his and said we have to agree on it before he signs the baby's birth certificate. So do they have to sign it or is it a voluntary thing? or do they sign it at all ? i just think its better he goes with my last name just incase if we ever broke up so that i wouldn't have to change it back over. so whats the case and what should i do? :(
I personally think if the dad is going to be in the child's life, the child should have his last name.
but no, he doesn't *have* to sign the birth certificate.
Or you could just use both of your last names?
Win win for both.
Your child your choice. He doesn't have to sign it.
even if you ever break up he should still have the fathers last name imo..you breaking up has nothing to do with a man and his son
They don't have to sign it.

I'd just put yours. If he's the Dad then he can. Just some new guy, I definitely wouldn't. If it turns out good and y'all stick together, he can add it to it later.
Nope, its his choice. But keep in mind if you ever want to get child support if something happens he has to be on the birth certificate, whether he signs it or the state does a DNA test and puts him on it.

WRONG!!!! I hate seeing this shit! This baby is just as much the fathers. ESPECIALLY because the father wants to be apart of the baby's life!
It's your choice if he signs it or not. It's not obligated. BUT it can effect child support or anything like that in the future IF you're worried about something happening. Good luck!
DH was at home with DD when I signed the birth certificate. No, he doesn't have to agree to what you put on it. We hadn't come to a consensus on a middle name with DS so I picked the one we had agreed on the longest.
If your relationship is tenuous it's up to you whether he has your name or his but personally unless the father is the most worthless person on the planet I would give the child his name even if I was single.
No they dont have to sign it, but if you want to hold your BD responsible later in life then it would be wise to allow him to sign it. Neither of my children have or will have my last name, and I am not throwing a hissy fit over it. I personally think that children should their fathers last name if the father wants to be part of the childs life.
Would it be soooo hard to have the baby have BOTH of your last names?
He doesn't have to sign it in the hospital, and you can definitely give your LO your last name. Some people choose the father's last name but you don't have to.

He doesn't have to sign the birth certificate, honestly the name thing is your choice but it takes 2 to make a baby, i wouldn't go based off of whether you were to break up or not. If he is willing to be in the childs life then let him, alot of "dads" aren't.
