I'm 13 weeks 2days and I've been having sharp pain on my right side since the beginning of the pregnancy. I kept telling the doctors and they kept saying it's gas take gas-x. The pain has gotten worse and they sent me for an ultrasound of my right side, well I have a big gall stone. I went to talk with a surgeon yesterday and she said it's going to be taken out sooner or later. And she recommended 14-20weeks. I had a stillborn last year and I'm considered high risk with this pregnancy, the high risk maternal fetal medicine doctor told me there is a 2-3% chance there would be complications with the surgery and I could lose the baby. I'm so confused on what the right choice is, the Doctors are worried if I don't get it done now then my gall bladder will get infected and I'll end up with emergency surgery which might put the baby at higher risk. Has anyone on here had their gall bladder removed while pregnant?
I haven't been in that situation, but I have done Gall bladders on pregnant women and they usually do them around the time frame you were given. I am a scrub tech if you were wondering. They always check FHT's before and after surgery if that makes you feel any better. It would be better to have it done as a planned surgery than in an emergency situation, that is for sure. Good luck to you.
They said they would find the heartbeat before and after. I've never had any kind of surgery, but I'm more worried about the baby. I'm hurting everyday, it's now my right arm, right side of my neck, right leg, and whole upper abdomen. With your experience with being around people who have had it done does it usually go smoothly?
The going smoothly depends on several different factors. Sometimes if you have had recent attacks it can make it more difficult but not always. Also, the gall gladder could be really socked in there. Or it could go easy as pie. There really isn't any way to tell for sure. In most cases the doctor will have an idea whether or not he thinks it will go smoothly. At least ours do and they tell us before hand. Surgery is scary if you're never had it. I understand your concern completely. I'm pretty nonchalant about it usually because I know what they are going to do to me and for me it helps me to stay calm. Others don't want to know the steps of the surgery. I work with a RN that almost backed out of her gall bladder surgery because she was so scared. But, if you are in that much pain it's not good for you or baby either. I've never had gall bladder issues so I can't relate. I would suggest expressing your fears to the surgeon and just ask him if he thinks it will be easy to get out or not. I hope this helps you.
I had my GB out when I wasnt pregnant but I do know doing keyhole it can be pretty sore after have you been seeking herbal remedies first? maybe something might help?
Well surgery is planned for Tuesday the 26th early morning they are going to do it laparoscopically. Before I even knew I was pregnant I started having sharp pains on my right side. When the did the ultrasound on my gall bladder cause my liver functioning test results were elevated that saw one stone over like 2/3 of the size of my gall bladder. The surgeon said it's not a matter of "if" I'm getting the surgery it's just "when". The baby is doing really well at this point, but I'm not doing so well. Having bad chest pain, and gall bladder attacks on and off all day. I don't eat hardly, and when I do eat I get so sick. The worst thing is the constant 24/7 migraine.... It's a crappy situation, but at this point everyone is saying doing the surgery now would be the least risk for me and him. And hopefully I can start feeling better, and we both handle the surgery well...
i had gallbladder surgery almost 8 weeks ago....i was 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant...i am now 21 weeks pregnant and everything is going great....the baby is doing fine....i found out i had gallstones and was going in the have surgery and when they did the pre surgery lab work they came back and said that i was pregnant and couldn't have surgery til i was in my second trimester....i lost 40 pounds because i couldn't eat and was in and out of the hospital...i was also on morphine, hydros, and percacets(sorry not spelled right)....i found out when i was 3 weeks pregnant and had to go till i was 13 weeks 5 days...it was hell.....i was scared but they did listen to the heartbeat before and after....i also had shingles at the time....since the surgery everything has been going great and i am just enjoying being pregnant....in the second trimester the risk to the baby are the same as to you.....if you have any questions you can ask me :) GL
