anyone know if car seats need to be rear facing until 2 years old now in PA....

I just went out to dinner with my brother in law and his wife and she was saying how they had turned him front facing after he turned one in november and just recently they had to turn him back to rear facing, she said the reccomendations have changed? I havent heard anything so I was just wondering....

I plan on doing extended rear facing as long as possibly but I was just wondering...thanks

Recommendation, not law.

It's still 1 and 20 by law/car seat minimum. Just the AAP and NHTSA have changed their minimum recommendation to turn. Not a law.

They should make it a law.

I'm confused about the until-2 recommendation...

My daughter's legs hang over the front of her car seat because she's tall, and they've done that for a while. (She's over two now.) Wouldn't that be unsafe backwards?

No. Your kid isn't going to break her legs rear facing. Her skull being torn from her spine though, would be dangerous. Which is what the issue is with facing forwards before 2.

Yeah this is enough to make you never wanna drive again. Ever.

I was watching that Molly Ringwald 80s movie "For Keeps"... and at the end, she gets in the car with her mom in the front seat and puts the baby in her lap.

I was just... wow.

There are lots more broken legs in forward facing children. A broken leg due to rear-facing is very rare.

From what i've read your child has more of a chance of breaking her legs FFing. Littlebutt will be 2 in June and she has super long legs and just bends them :)

Wow.

Just wow. Didn't even know.

I know in DE they have to be in a carseat (ETA: or booster) until at least 8 years old, but a lot of people don't follow that law. I don't understand parents that just throw their kids in the car and go =/
