To help ease engorgment I used to get in the shower and get it to let down but didn't express more just what let down on its own

My son is 3weeks and 2day and I'm doing really well breast feeding him. He hasn't had any bottle feedings or pacifiers.
But I've been curious about possibly pumping, as I do tend to be producing more than he can eat in one feeding and if I make a run to the store while my husband watches him it would give me more peace of mind knowing he'd be okay. When is the best age to wait until introducing a bottle (meaning with my breast milk)? and What's a good kind that would be most like a moms breast?
And do I pump emediately after a feeding?

Just wanted to brag a little. We've made it 4 months bf. It's been a lot if hard work, long nights and some tears but were keeping at it. Yay!

Sites like kellymom suggest waiting until at least 6 weeks. As far as bottles I have no idea. It's a trial and error type of deal. The only one my son would remotely take was the Doc Brown bottle. If bottles don't work you could syringe feed or cup feed.

I would pump right after meals and get what little bit I could and save that. This actually helped build my supply to keep up with the tons of growth spurts he went through.

Thank you for replying and the advice! I'm probably going to try lansinoh's brand of bottle which is one of the natural breast flow bottles when we do.

I'm proud to say we made it to 1 month of only breast feeding. he was 8lbs.5oz at birth and at his 3week appiontment he weighed in at 10lbs exactly! and even grew 1inch an a half!

my only resent issue has been he gets very fussy at the same time every night?... I'm pretty confident its gas. A friend suggested Gripe water, have any of you used this with a breast fed baby? If so how did it work and what brand?
His poo's are normal and fine, he's not constipated at all! He acts like he wants to eat, latches and then looks like he is in pain, rips off and trys to latch on again...then repeats. Any advise?

Sorry Ladies, I'm sure its talked about but I didnt have time to read over 100 pages! lol

I'm pregnant with my first and was wondering if would be okay to only pump? I like the idea of breastfeeding for the health reasons but I'd like other people to be able to feed him too. I'd feel super bad if his dad didnt get to feed him for like a month, so i was planning on only pumping. Will this work? any tips for this?

Thank you so much for sharing. I read an article on how to breast feed in public and I liked  http://www.momjunction.com/articles/15-tips-bravin...

Bumping this as I think a breastfeeding thread is an important resource. I'm currently still nursing my 14 month old and I am happy to share any advice. :)

144f62ae4b32bbf2f97b3902c803af29.jpgJust came across this post + thought I'd share a picture of me feeding my 5week old son! Breastfeeding was unsuccessful with my now 3year old daughter (she stopped latching on at 2days old) so for me to stick it out for the past 5weeks has made me so happy! BREAST IS BEST!!

Anybody out there just nurse at night and feed formula during the day?
