If you know or are worried that you have an eating disorder such as anorexia, bulimia or use unsafe methods to maintain or lose weight (laxative abuse, diet pills), pregnancy is the ultimate opportunity to work on changing your behaviors.
If this means going to see a therapist or psychiatrist for support during this conflicted time where you must begin eating properly, do it. If you don’t do (or can’t afford) therapy or counseling, this means openly discussing your eating issues with a trusted family or friend.
Now, more than ever before, you need healthy eating behaviors and a healthy relationship with your body. In other words, you need to be willing to change for your child (and yourself, woman!).
If you’re feeling overwhelmed at the thought of changing your mentality about food and your body, remind yourself of this critical fact: your body is healthy enough to become pregnant, which means you’re actually quite healthy already – despite your emotional eating issues.
This is your foothold in reality: Your body is able and willing to produce a child! True good health is now only a matter of you making daily choices for the better.
It’s this basic:
- Stop all self-induced binging / purging / use of diet pills / use of laxatives self-starvation / or other self-destructive methods. Seek help if you feel too weak to stop on your own.
- Get rid of your scale and begin educating yourself on nutrition, health, fitness and positive body images.
- Make positive healthy choices in your diet and daily life.
